Khi gặp được ông Lưu, bà không chỉ được người này nhiệt tình hướng dẫn cách ăn loại rau này cho đúng, mà còn được động viên là yên tâm rồi bệnh nhất định sẽ đỡ. Bà Vương đã ở lại Malaysia và ăn mảnh cộng liên tục 10 ngày, sau đó xin thêm một bọc lá để mang về nhà uống tiếp thêm 5 ngày nữa. Trong lần hóa trị thứ 2 trước khi khi bà xét nghiệm CA125, chỉ số bệnh đã giảm 45%, khối u kích thước 4*5cm cũng đã biến mất. Trước khi vào đợt hóa trị lần 2, bác sĩ hỏi bà có bị rụng tóc không nhưng bà Vương cho biết tóc không hề rụng như các bệnh nhân ung thư đang làm hóa trị khác. Sang lần hóa trị thứ 3, các bác sĩ khẳng định: lần hóa trị thứ 3 sẽ rất nặng, tóc chắc chắn sẽ bị rụng, tuy nhiên, sau khi hóa trị thì tóc bà lại tiếp tục giữ được an toàn một cách đáng kinh ngạc. Tiếp tục lần 4 hóa trị, chỉ số xét nghiệm máu CA125 của bà Vương đã trở lại bình thường, chỉ số hiện tại giảm xuống còn 16,8 (trong khi đó chỉ số an toàn của người bình thường là dưới 36). Các bác sĩ cho biết, bệnh của bà Vương đã tiến triển theo chiều hướng rất tốt, theo phác đồ điều trị ban đầu của bệnh án là phải hóa trị 6 lần nhưng chỉ làm đến lần thứ 4 là có thể dừng lại vì hiệu quả chữa bệnh tốt ngoài mong đợi. Kết quả này hoàn toàn nằm ngoài dự kiến của các bác sĩ và mọi người. Bà Vương cảm thấy rất biết ơn trời đất vì đã nghe bạn mà tin tưởng chữa bệnh theo cách này, đồng thời bà cũng mang một ít cây về trồng tại nhà, tiếp tục ăn thêm trong vòng 4 tuần để nâng cao tác dụng phòng bệnh. Sau sự kiện đó, báo chí Trung Quốc cũng đã đăng tin về cây mảnh cộng có nhiều tác dụng tốt cho sức khỏe như trị chứng thấp khớp, vàng da, đau xương, rối loạn kinh nguyệt, bệnh thận. Người bệnh có thể ăn cây mảnh cộng bằng cách ép lấy nước uống, hoặc nấu như một món canh ăn hàng ngày. Đây chỉ là bài chia sẻ riêng của bà Vương và bà cũng cho rằng cách chữa bệnh của bà không dặ trên bất kì căn cứ hay nghiên cứu khoa học nào cả, mà chỉ là cá nhân lựa chọn trong lúc mắc bệnh hiểm nghèo. Chuyện dùng cây mảnh cộng chữa ung thư cũng chưa được giới khoa học xác nhận. Ngoài trường hợp của bà Vương, hiện tại ở Malaysia có rất nhiều bệnh nhân ung thư thực hiện theo cách chữa bệnh bằng lá tự nhiên này. Ông Lưu cho biết, hàng ngày có hàng trăm cuộc gọi điện hỏi mua lá mảnh cộng. Hiện tại các nhà khoa học ở Thái Lan, Đài Loan và nhiều quốc gia khác cũng đang quan tâm nghiên cứu về tác dụng của loại cây này, nhưng vẫn chưa đưa ra kết luận cuối cùng. Cây mảnh cộng có thể tìm thấy ở Việt Nam Cây mảnh cộng (tên khoa học là Clinacanthus nutans, có tên khác là cây bìm bịp, cây xương khỉ). Đây là loại cây nhỏ, mọc thành bụi, chiều cao có thể dài tới 3m. Lá nguyên, cuống ngắn, lá mặt hơi nhẵn, có màu xanh thẫm. Ngày xưa, cây này mọc hoang rất phổ biến ở nhiều vùng nông thôn Việt Nam và châu Á, giờ đô thị hóa nên ít tìm thấy hơn. Hoa mảnh cộng có màu đỏ hay màu hồng, rủ xuống ở ngọn; tràng hoa có hai môi, môi dưới có 3 răng; bao phấn vàng xanh, quả hình trùy dài khoảng 1,5cm, cuống ngắn, chứa 4 hạt. Theo y học dân gian, cây mảnh cộng có vị ngọt, tính bình, có tác dụng làm mát gan, tăng tiết mật, khử ứ, tiêu thũng, chống đau, trị mụn rộp ở mép, miệng. Rau mảnh cộng có mùi thơm nhẹ, có thể được ăn sống (khó ăn) và chủ yếu được dùng để luộc hay nấu canh. Hiện nay, nhiều nơi dùng rau mảnh cộng để ăn kèm với lẩu hoặc nấu canh với thịt bằm, nấu với tôm hay nấu canh cua rất ngon và giàu dinh dưỡng. Chắc nhiều người còn nhớ, mảnh cộng là loại rau rừng quen thuộc với bộ đội trong thời kì chiến tranh ở Việt Nam. Trong chiến trường ác liệt loài rau này được dùng thay cho một phần lương thực bị thiếu hụt.
